With the class of 2012 in the books, college coaches across the country are ramping up their evaluations of the top 2013 talent in the country, and one prospect who has seen his offer list grow in the last week is Indianapolis (Ind.) North Central two-way lineman Darius Latham.
In the last week, Latham has added new offers from Michigan, Michigan State, Northwestern and Tennessee. Previous offers had come in from Indiana, Louisville, Minnesota, Ole Miss and Purdue. All of these offers have come in since Christmas, and changed Latham's outlook.
"I'm just looking to the future now," Latham said. "I'm looking into college and looking to get my schooling paid for is the main thing. It is exciting though."
Latham is looking closely at each of recent schools that have offered. He has varying degrees of familiarity with each new school, but is looking to build better relationships with the coaching staffs. He plans to contact Northwestern head coach Pat Fitzgerald this week, and recently had a conversation with Tennessee coaches.
"That's a big-time school," Latham said of Tennessee. "They were talking how they like my football and talking about [playing] me on both sides of the ball."
Besides being a standout on the football field, Latham is also a talented basketball player who holds down the center position for North Central's hoops squad. His responsibilities to his basketball team have prevented him from traveling too far from home this winter and he has not yet begun to look at possible unofficial visit destinations.
"I don't really have a plan right now," Latham said. "I've just got to wait until basketball season is over before I can get some visits in."
With several options on the table and few college campuses visited, Latham does not expect to have a decision until sometime during his senior season.
"It's probably going to be a late decision so I can weight out all my [options]," he said.
