Larkins lives up to hype

Four star corner Virdell Larkins (5-10, 177 4.5) from Oakland (Calif.) Tech is another highly rated player who lived up to his reputation as one of the nation’s most highly recruited players. Larkins is your typical hard-nosed lockdown corner.
Larkins held Richmond (Calif.) De Anza number one wide receiver to only one catch. We are talking about a receiver who blitzed his first opponent for over 100 yards of receiving.

After witnessing Larkins’ tough coverage De Anza quit trying to throw to his man, who was incidentally is one of De Anza’s best offensive weapons.
It is really an advantage when one player can change the outcome of a game. Larkins is that type of player.
Larkins also tallied up seven tackles on the evening.
Larkins even got into the act on the offensive side of the ball last Friday evening (September 19th) and scored two touchdowns.
“I scored one touchdown rushing the ball and I also caught a touchdown pass,” Larkins said. “The rushing touchdown was a two-yard plunge and the other was on a 20-yard pass.”
When you are has athletic and as skilled as Larkins it is easy to see why he is such a sought after corner.
Larkins is rated by rivals.com as the nation’s number nine corner. He is rated as the western region’s number 29 prospect at any opposition and as the Golden State’s number 23 prospect at any position.
“I have been called by everyone who is recruiting me,” Larkins said. “I really don’t have any favorites at this time.”
Larkins has offers from everyone in the Pac10 except Stanford. He also has offers from Colorado, Utah, Wyoming and many more.
As a junior, Larkins accounted for 110 tackles, 20 tackles for loss, six picks (three in one game) and five sacks. His on field performance saw him be named first-team all-city as a defensive back.
Larkins racked up 550 yards and ten touchdowns playing both running and fullback. He also lined up at wide receiver hauling in 13 receptions for 350 yards and three touchdowns. He can also help a team as a kick returner. He returned one punt for a 65-yard touchdown and one kickoff 96-yards for a touchdown.
Larkins is very aggressive and physical player who can fill a lot of roles on a defense.
