Laquan Robinson gave football a shot, now has six offers

GREENVILLE, Ala. — It has been a big last couple weeks for Laquan Robinson. The 2022 defensive back out of Greenville High has picked up offers from Akron, Georgia Tech, Kansas, Penn State, South Carolina and Tennessee, his first five offers.

This is game-changing for talented junior.

"I got Akron first, then Georgia Tech the next day. Then, five or six days later, I got the other three offers in the same day," said Robinson. "This has all been life-changing. I come from a small town not many get out of, so this is something big for me and my family. I am going to keep striving for more."

Robinson never played football growing up. He was a baseball and basketball kid, but in 9th grade, he decided to give football a shot. Before the season even started, he broken his wrist and missed the entire season.

He could have easily given up, and put 100% of his focus on other sports, but he kept working, gave football another shot in 2019, and fast forward to 2020, Robinson has quickly emerged as one of the top junior defensive backs in the state.

"My coach stayed on me. He kept asking me to try it out, so I did. I kept working, I got my body right for basketball my freshman year, then last season, I played football for the first time.

"I got into the game, I worked hard and I quickly fell in love with football. Here I now, I have five offers, and it is hard to believe.

"It hit quick for me. I am so grateful for all of this. I cannot even believe it."

With the offers coming in a seven day span, Robinson has had at least one conversation with all schools that have offered. He is looking forward to building relationships and learning about the schools.

"I like all the coaches I talked to so far, but Georgia Tech probably made the strongest impression," said Robinson. "Over the phone, he got personal, he got to know me and that made them stand out.

"I do not know a lot about any of the schools yet. I can't wait to talk to the coaches more, see schools when we can visit and just get out there."
