Lanes endures weather; enjoys trip

Virginia Beach (Va.) Salem wide receiver Shannon Lane isn't used to the freezing temperatures and sleet and snow he saw in Boston this past weekend. However, despite the weather, the Boston College Eagles made an impression.
"I really enjoyed it there," said the quiet, 6-foot-0, 190-pounder of his trip to Chestnut Hill, Mass. "I really liked the coaches, facilities and the players. Joel Hazard was my host and he was really cool. The first night we were shown around by Antonio Garay because he's hurt and didn't need to do game prep. He was a fun guy."

Lane was a bit surprised when he stepped off the plane in Boston.
"The weather was awful," he laughed. "I didn't like that at all, but I toughed it out. At first I wanted to just get back on the plane. We don't get weather like that down here (in Virginia). But a lot of the recruits were from Ohio and other parts and they didn't mind the weather at all, so I got used to it too."
Lane sees playing time available at BC.
"They need bigger cornerbacks I know that," he said. "The guys they have are good, but really kind of short. They also missed a lot of tackles so I was told I could come in right away."
Lane entered the weekend with Tennessee as his clear leader and Boston College a bit behind Virginia and Virginia Tech. So where do things stand now?
"Tennessee is still No. 1 and if I like it there, I might commit," he said of Tennessee, where he'll visit on Nov. 29. "BC is No. 2 right now. I was really impressed with the closeness of the players and the academics. If BC has one thing over Tennessee, it's that. They graduate all of their players."
Will he need his trips to Virginia (Dec. 6) and Virginia Tech (Dec. 13)?
"If I don't get a good feeling at Tennessee, then I'll take my last two trips," he said. "I really like all four of the schools and BC surprised me a bit so I'd like to take all my visits. Tennessee is just higher than any of them right now, but we'll see what happens when I visit."
Lane is being recruited by Tennessee, Virginia and Virginia Tech as a wideout and by Boston College as a defensive back.
