MIAMI, Fla. -- Diego LaMonica has options. Plenty of them, in fact. If the Miami (Fla.) Gulliver Prep star never gets another offer, he’s fine with that, but that is unlikely to be the case. National powers are starting to kick the tires in the South Florida star and it’s easy to get the feeling that LaMonica’s recruitment could change drastically in the months ahead.
Georgia tight ends coach Todd Hartley was on hand for LaMonica’s Tuesday-afternoon practice and seemed to be taking an interest in watching the three-star tight end, but it’s another national power that seems closest to making things official with an offer.
“I’ve been up to Clemson twice now,” LaMonica said. “There is serious interest both ways, but since my film is short they want to see me up there at the camp. They want to see me work in person, so I’m gonna do that.”
As of now, LaMonica holds offers from programs such as Oregon, West Virginia, Vanderbilt and South Carolina.
IN HIS WORDS:
-- “Talking to me the most are probably Clemson, Georgia, Vanderbilt, Oregon, Georgia and South Carolina. Actually, South Carolina and Vanderbiklt are probably the two biggest ones that offered that are really pushing.”
-- “The last visit I took was Vanderbilt, I loved it there. It was cool how midtown is, like right there. Then, the coaches. Coach [Devin] Fitzsimmons is the best, man. I got to see their spring game and how they use the tight end.”
-- “My mom went [to South Carolina], so she’s always telling me about the school. She tells me how much she loves it. I haven’t been up there yet, but since this all kicked in she’s been pushing me to go. I’m going to visit over the summer. I talk to Coach [Will] Muschamp from there.”
