Lamar Consolidated balances recruiting, playoffs

Amid a playoff run, Rosenberg (Texas) Lamar Consolidated is trying to balance the recruiting process.
Schools of all shapes and sizes are passing through the suburban Houston school to check on the junior and senior prospects. Four-star offensive lineman Jarvis Jones made his commitment to LSU, while three-star defensive end Lavar Brown looks to be closing in on a decision to Nebraska.

"We are really concentrating on the playoffs right now," Lamar Consolidated associate coach Michael Zerlein said. "Lavar will be taking a visit to Nebraska in January."
As of now, it looks like Brown will be visiting the Huskers on Jan. 13.
Defensive back James Rodgers recruitment is picking up. Rodgers has been offered by Utah State, but Texas State, Texas Tech, Tulsa and Western Michigan are nearing.
Shaheed Davis, a 6-foot-2 cornerback, is also garnering interest from Tulsa, Arizona and Kansas State.
"He's just a very athletic kid," Zeirlein said. "He could be a big cover cornerback or a Division I receiver."
Consolidated juniors Jaquizz Rodgers and linebacker Sule Ofiagede (6-1, 190-pounds) will be the headliners for Lamar next season.
"Jaquizz has been offered by Arizona and Sule will be a safety in college," he said. "He's a tremendous playmaker on defense and has a nose for the ball."
For now, the team is focused on a state championship ring. The offers will come.
