Lair makes surprise decision

Originally, tight end Eric Lair had a plan to make his commitment during his senior season. However, on Monday, the Houston Lamar prospect decided he was ready to pull the trigger.
The 6-foot-3, 210-pounder had picked up scholarship offers from Baylor, Fresno State, Iowa State, Minnesota, Nebraska, and Oklahoma State. One of those out-of-state schools impressed him and Lair felt it was the right time to make his decision.

"I just committed to Minnesota," Lair said. "It was the coaches. They sound like great guys and that are going to help me do great things. I haven't visited there yet, but I plan to in the next few weeks.
Lair was recruited by Minnesota coach Derek Lewis, who also made a big impact on his decision.
"He's a great guy," Lair said about Lewis. "He gets you pumped up. He's just a high energy guy."
In terms of early playing time, Lair says that he is looking to compete right away for a spot.
"They said they want me to play as soon as I get up there," Lair said. "I'm really working on my route running and catching the ball. I want to be an athletic tight end when I get up there and stretch the field."
As a junior, Lair had 35 receptions for 430 yards and three touchdowns and picked up first-team all-district honors.
