La Marque defender has offers

La Marque has been one of the top programs in the state of Texas over the past two decades and the Houston-area school is never lacking in producing college prospects.
The class of 2013 is no different for the Cougars as 6-foot-1, 210-pound defender Lawrence Montegut holds several offers.

"I have Rice, Southeastern Louisiana, Arkansas Tech and Texas Tech (that have offered)," Montegut said. "Rice came in not too long ago. I went to the Drug-Free photo shoot and they offered me that same day. Texas Tech offered me at their junior day.
"I haven't really kept in contact with Texas Tech though. We had spring ball and I know they did too so things got really busy here lately."
Other programs have been keeping tabs on Montegut as well.
"I've been getting a lot of interest from OU," he said. "I also got a visit from Northwestern and visits from a bunch of other schools."
Montegut plays defensive end in high school but will likely transition to a slightly different position at the next level.
"Some schools are looking at me as an outside end but most of them are looking at me as a hybrid defensive end," he said. "I would stand up a little bit."
Montegut says he has grown up a fan of an in-state program but, other than that, he remains wide open.
"I want to go to (Texas) A&M," he said, "but I haven't heard from them really since the season. Other than that I'm pretty open."
However, another La Marque prospect in Demun Mercer has also been offered by Rice and that certainly intrigues Montegut.
"We haven't really talked about going to school together," Montegut said of himself and Mercer, "but we did talk about how we both got the offer from Rice. We've actually been talking about that a lot."
