Ventura (Calif.) St. Bonaventure linebacker Cody Kurz will be one of the nation's top 2011 linebacker prospects in the nation. His coaches raved about him all the way back when he was a freshman, and he's lived up to those expectations with a big career so far.
This season, he's already racked up two sacks. Last week he had 10 tackles and is already gotten one scholarship offer on his resume from Colorado.
"Everything is going good," Kurz said. "I'm playing good. We've played three games so far, and the team is doing quite well. I'd say it's pretty clear I've gotten stronger and faster than what I was before."
Even though he's listed at linebacker, Kurz said he is open to playing tight end and defensive end in college.
"Well I play both tight end and defensive end, so really wherever they need me and I can help the team is where I'll play," he said.
Kurz said he was excited to receive his first scholarship offer.
"When I got the offer from Colorado, I was almost speechless," he said. "When I think Colorado, I think outdoors, mountain climbing and fishing. That's pretty cool.
"I can't make any visits until next year because I'm a junior, but I have received a lot of letters. Colorado, Ohio State, Oregon, Nebraska, Georgia, Cal, UCLA, LSU, Notre Dame, Washington, UofA (Arizona), UConn and Northwestern."
Any of these schools really stick out?
"I like Notre Dame and Uof A," he said. "Georgia looks really nice as well, but so does Washington."
Why do those schools look good early on?
"I'm interested in what there is to do during the off season," he said. "I'm really into outdoors stuff, hunting and fishing particularly. My Dad and brother usually go hunting or fishing like almost every weekend."
