Kuntz makes his choice

It's Fourth of July and one player in Pennsylvania is celebrating more than the holiday as he has made a decision. Camp Hill (Pa.) Trinity wide receiver Christian Kuntz made his selection between Connecticut and Penn State this afternoon.
"I committed to Coach Johnson and Penn State earlier today," he said. "I plan to call Coach McQueary and Coach Paterno tomorrow. I don't want to bother them during the holiday.

"I'm really happy and now I have something to celebrate at the picnic later today."
What made Kuntz select Penn State?
"The location always helps, it's only about an hour and a half away from my house," he said. "Also, my chances of going in and playing are better since they are losing all the starting wideouts they have this year and didn't take any receivers in 2008. I have a chance to go in and play as a true freshman."
The coaches were a big factor as well for Kuntz.
"That's always a big thing," he said. "I'm interacting with them for the next four or five years of my life. The fact I'm comfortable and can talk to them was a huge deciding factor.
"Coach Johnson in particular is a genuine and nice guy. He jokes around with us. I remember doing drills and he was teaching us and then out of nowhere he started talking about Rambo. That is the best part of him, he relates to the kids."
Kuntz didn't grow up a fan of Penn State.
"Not at all actually, I actually rooted against Penn State," he said. "I always rooted for the underdog.
"My dad went to Maryland and my dad's side of the family all loves Notre Dame. They all said they are going to have to like Penn State too for the next four or five years. I'm going to wear blue and white everywhere. It's definitely going to be different and something I'm very happy about."
As for playing time, Kuntz went into further detail.
"Coach McQueary told me that I'll need to come in and play and develop since they are lacking," he said. "He honestly thinks I could play as a true freshman."
Kuntz is relieved to have the decision behind him.
"Just to get this off my chest is big," he said. "I'm a team captain at Trinity and we have a strong team. This takes a load off."
Kuntz held offers from Connecticut, Buffalo, Akron, Towson and JMU.
