KU, Tulsa offer Texas safety

Two-star safety Curtis Williams of Arlington (Texas) Sam Houston was wondering when Rivals100.com would finally get in contact with him for an interview. Heck, he’s already earned two scholarship offers and is in position to earn more – making him one of the best kept secrets in the state of Texas.
Williams, who is 6-foot and 170 pounds, has been clocked at 4.5-seconds in the 40-yard dash, has a 225-pound bench press and a 38-inch vertical leap. He used that athletic ability last season to rack up three interceptions and earn all-district honors.

“I took back one of the interceptions 96 yards for a score against Carter,” Williams said. “They were inside the 20, threw the pass into the middle near the goal line for the tight end. It seemed like he was just throwing it to me. I took it up the right side line and I was gone.”
Expect more of that this season from Williams. He’s worked hard over the summer and is now bigger, faster and stronger. He’s also a lot wiser, too.
“I know that I can’t take anything for granted and have to work hard for everything,” Williams said. “Our coaches are telling us that nothing can be taken for granted and we’re working hard for position battles and trying to reach our team goals. I wasn’t much of a team-oriented guy before, but I am now. I see that you have to be about your team if you want to win.”
On the recruiting front, Williams said he’s been told that the college coaches love his ability to play free safety and his hitting has already caught attention.
“I’d like to think that people like me because of my coverage skills,” Williams said. “But everybody says they like my hitting. I like to go down and hit people as a free safety. I’m not afraid of a little contact. I have a big heart.”
Williams has offers from Kansas and Tulsa on the table and he’s sure to add more to his list as his senior season moves forward.
“I’ve been getting a lot of interest from Notre Dame, too,” he said. “I went up there to Notre Dame for a visit with my family and I really liked it and they seem interested in me. I also went up to Tulsa, and I kind of liked it, too. It’s close to home.”
But those aren’t his only options, he mentioned he’s looking hard at Kansas and teams like Iowa and SMU called in May and are still continuing to also recruit.
