Kopa solidifies his commitment

Elk Grove (Calif.) lineman Matt Kopa committed early in the recruiting process to Stanford, right before his breakout performance at the NorCal Nike Camp. Following the coaching change in Palo Alto, Kopa said he was going to open up his recruitment a bit and take a few trips.
"Nah, I'm done, I'm 100% committed to Stanford," Kopa said. "I took my visit there on (Jan. 7) and it was great. I had a feeling that would happen for me, that once I got there and met with everyone, my commitment would be solidified and that's what happened.

"Cal wanted me to trip pretty bad and they came to the school a couple of times. It's a good school and I was going to visit but I just think Stanford is the best place for me. They have everything I want in a school and with the defensive staff being retained, I think it's a great situation for me."
Kopa, 6-6, 270 pounds recent competed in the CaliFlorida Bowl and looked very good. He worked out at a new position, defensive tackle, after playing defensive end for his Elk Grove. We've always felt offensive tackle was his best position but the lineman looked good on the defensive line and now we're convinced he could play on that side of the ball as well, inside or outside.
"I thought I held my own pretty good out there," Kopa said. "It was a great experience and I had fun meeting all the guys and playing with some great players. I felt I belonged out there and my confidence got a nice boost from being able to compete like I did."
