Koloto pulls the trigger

In this internet age where there is so much news coming out on a daily basis, once a player commits, it usually takes no more than a day or two before everyone knows about it. Well Palo Alto (Calif.) two way lineman Fred Koloto made his commitment three weeks ago and we were a little surprised to learn his destination.
Koloto, 6-4, 270 pounds is a talented two way lineman who will likely play on the offensive side of the ball in college. We had a chance to check out the big lineman in person December 16 at the CIF Div II state title game when his Viking squad went up against a very talented Orange Lutheran squad led by state player of the year, Aaron Corp. Although the Lancers came out on top, Koloto impressed us on both sides of the ball showing a great motor and was a physical presence all game long.

On the recruiting front, the only official visit Koloto took was to Washington and we thought the Huskies were in the drivers seat. As the old saying goes however, 'not so fast.'
"I committed to San Jose State," Koloto said. "I actually committed the same weekend of the state title game, the following Sunday. I was scheduled to take my official visit that day but we played on Saturday so the next day, I went with my family to the campus and told Coach Tomey I was ready to commit to him.
"For me, it all came down to just being more comfortable there than anywhere else. I loved Washington and had a great visit there but I just felt more comfortable at San Jose State. I had a great relationship with coach Brennan, I really like Coach Tomey and the direction the program is going and when you add the distance factor and how close the school is, it became a pretty easy decision for me.
"I was going to take more visits and was also very interested in San Diego State and Fresno State but I'm done with recruiting. I'm going to visit San Jose State later this month and that will be the last official visit I take. I'm a Spartan and I'm very excited to be going there."
