Kizer a red-hot prospect in Memphis

Looking for a hot prospect in the Volunteer State?
Memphis is always a good place to begin the search, Melrose High School in particular.

That’s home to three-star wideout Corey Kizer, who’s creating quite a buzz on the recruiting trail these days.
“I’m getting swamped with calls and offers lately,” he said. “I’m getting calls from everyone in the SEC, Miami, Oklahoma State, North Carolina, Louisville… a few others. All of them have offered except for Georgia.”
Kizer (6-3, 190, 4.45) caught 27 passes for 800 yards and six touchdowns as a junior. He said he’s got five TD receptions this season, which may seem modest at first glance until you see he’s playing alongside five or six other top D-I prospects in the explosive Melrose offense.
“We spread the ball around a lot,” Kizer said. “We’re not about stats and all that stuff. We’re just about winning,” noting that Melrose is 8-1 and ranked No. 1 in Class 4A (No. 2 in the state at-large).
He says he’ll wait until the end of the season to schedule official visits, but it looks like five schools hold the best positions for those at this point.
“I’m still keeping my options open, but I’m mainly looking at Miami, Ole Miss, Oklahoma State, North Carolina and Tennessee,” Kizer said. “Miami is up there pretty high for me. They’re going to put their players in a good position to go to the NFL. They develop a lot of great receivers, and they have a balanced offensive attack so nobody can really key on any one guy. That makes all of them better.
“Ole Miss has a great passing offense. They throw the ball so much, it’s hard to overlook them. I just wish they had Eli Manning coming back for another year. Plus, it’s close to home. It’s only about an hour and a half from here. It would be good for my family.
“With Oklahoma State, I look at what they’ve done with Rashaun Woods. The way their coaches are talking to me, they want me to come in and help fill his shoes. They feel like I can be that type of receiver for them. When they say something like that, it just blows me away because he’s as good as anybody out there. I like the direction their program is heading, too. I think they’re going to be going to a lot of bowl games.
“North Carolina is rebuilding right now, but they have a good offense for receivers and a good opportunity to come in and play early. I’ve always liked their school and the teams there.
“Tennessee is… well… Tennessee. That’s always been my team. I’m a big fan. They send a lot of receivers to the league just like Miami. Look at Peerless Price, Donte Stallworth, Kelly Washington, and one of the guys from my school, Cedric Wilson. That’s just in the last few years. It’s just a great program all the way around.”
Academically, Kizer maintains a 2.8 GPA and is waiting for his latest test scores.
