Kirven is blowing up

Defensive tackle Korren Kirven out of Lynchburg (Va.) Brookville is blowing up. The 6-foot-4, 260-pounder landed a major SEC offer this week, his fifth scholarship to date.
"Coach called me up to his office today and wanted me to call Coach Saban and one of his assistants," he said. "Both of them told me they wanted to offer me and they plan to send the paperwork.

"They told me about the academics, how good their school is and how the stadium is and the program itself."
The news of an offer from the Crimson Tide surprised the 6-foot-4, 260-pounder.
"I was really surprised and excited, it was a big offer," he said. "It means a lot, it's really cool to have a lot of options.
"I mean, they were national champions and they are from a really good conference, they've got some good football players."
The offer is No. 5 for Kirven joining NC State, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest.
More schools including Utah, Colorado and Syracuse are also interested.
In the meantime, Kirven is planning to hit the road soon.
"I'm visiting a lot of junior days," he said. "Alabama wanted me to come down, but they didn't have a date, we'll find a date and see what we can do.
"Virginia Tech's got a junior day on the 26th and Virginia has given us a couple of dates."
