Killebrew picks Navy

A week ago, Springdale (Md.) Flowers linebacker Brandon Killebrew made a decision. The 6-foot-0, 199-pounder committed to a Divison I program. Who did he select?
"I actually committed to Navy about a week ago," he said. "Overall, I felt it was the best place for me. I was comfortable with the coaches and probably have an early chance of playing.

"I know the benefits with it and it's good for me in the long run. I like what they have to offer not just for football, but academically. I asked my parents about it and we laid out the X's and O's. Then I committed, it was great. I'll be there this weekend taking an official."
Obviously the military was a draw for the two-star prospect.
"Overall the benefits that came with it are great and the experience, it's a great opportunity for me."
Meanwhile, the program was a factor too.
"They've had a great deal of success and are a winning team, they go to a bowl almost every year," he stated. "Out of all the academy schools, they have been the best the last five or six years. That stuck out a lot for me. I like the winning tradition."
Killebrew has multiple options as far as position goes.
"They have given me the option to play safety, outside linebacker or inside linebacker," he said. "Most of their linebackers are juniors and seniors, so I should see time within my first two years."
Killebrew selected Navy over offers from Delaware, JMU, Ohio and a verbal from Michigan State.
While he has given his pledge, he maintains that he is still looking around a bit.
"I'm sort of open," he said. "I'm getting interest from Minnesota and Vanderbilt. They are kind of talking about offering and if they offer there is a possibility things could change, but I'm very excited about my decision."
