Kicker Puzzled By Lack Of Offers

Kicker Rick Krautman from Franklin Lakes (N.J.) Ramapo is very confused as he can’t understand why the offers have not come in bunches. One of the top kickers in the country, Rick camped at seven schools this summer and was told at each one that he was a top choice.
“Rick went out to Michigan, Ohio State, Indiana, Purdue, Tulane and LSU,” said Krautman’s father, Rick Sr.. “He had super camps at all of them and the coaches told us that they really wanted him, but we did not get an offer from them yet. Rick does have an offer from Rutgers and that’s good because they have always been one of his top schools anyway.”

Krautman’s last camp of the summer was at LSU. While there, he connected on all 16 field goal attempts with two of them coming from 50 yards. He did it all without using a block.
“When you go to these camps, many of the kickers use a block like it’s high school, Rick kicked off the ground,” said his dad.
His 50-yard field goals not only sailed through the uprights at LSU, but at every camp he attended. He hit on a 52-yarder at Indiana on his first and only attempt at that distance and was good on most every kick inside the 50.
“It’s tough for a kicker, schools only have a limited number of scholarships to give and might only take a kicker once every three years, others rely on walk-ons. All of the schools he went to told us that he is their man, but we are yet to see it in writing. ”
Rick is primed to break almost every New Jersey prep kicking record this year and is hoping that the college recruiters are primed to offer him soon.
“Like I said, Rick has an offer from Rutgers and he likes them a lot, but you need to look into each program and know how many kickers each team already has. It’s not easy and it’s very frustrating.”
