Kevin Thomas pulls the trigger

It always seemed like just a matter of time before Oxnard (Calif.) Rio Mesa defensive back Kevin Thomas pulled the trigger and he indeed got it done this weekend on his official visit to USC and announced for the Trojans on Saturday night along with three other top 100 players.
“I’m very excited to be a Trojan,” Thomas said. “I had a great weekend and I knew this was the place for me. Coming in to this visit, I was planning to commit if everything went right and it was the perfect trip for me.

“I just love these players and coaches and there is so much camaraderie among everyone it’s amazing. Everyone gets along so well and that was really the main reason for my decision along with being able to play fairly early. They lose some corners and will really only have three guys coming back there. Cal told me they wanted to red-shirt me and I wasn’t really in to that. At least give me a chance to come in and compete.
“USC told me they wanted me to come in and watch as many spring practices as I could so that when fall practice rolls around, I’ll know the defense and will have a chance to play early. That excited me too, so when school is out, I’m going to take a couple of weeks to hang out with friends and then I’ll move in with some friends I know on the team and start working out as much as possible.”
Thomas said he committed Saturday at the Papadakis Taverna over dinner.
“They made a big deal out of it and it was cool,” Thomas said. “Coach Orgeron got up and asked all of us visiting who wanted to be a Trojan. Me and some of the guys had been talking about it so me, Averell Spicer, Will Harris and Jason Gwaltney all stood up and said we were ready to be Trojans. Everyone started clapping for us and going crazy, it was cool and we were all real hyped up. I’m just glad the whole thing is over and I’m excited to be a Trojan next year.”
