Kenyatta Watson de-commits from FSU

Rivals 100 cornerback Kenyatta Watson saw Florida State have a tough season, then make a coaching change and he is now ready to re-open his recruitment.

“I have decommitted from Florida State and this has been on my mind for quite some time,” said Watson. “Even before Jimbo Fisher left [for Texas A&M], I just felt it would be better for me to evaluate all schools.

“I want to evaluate the academic parts of the schools, focus on my training in the off-season and then commit to the one I plan to sign with after taking more time to look around."

The 6-foot-2, 183 pound cornerback out of Loganville (Ga.) Grayson committed to the Seminoles early in April, so he was on the commitment list for over nine months.

Florida State is not out of this race. He plans to evaluate the new staff there and just slow things down.

"I’m just gonna take it slow and really look into schools that want me and take visits. Florida State is still a school I am considering. I am open to everyone."

Watson said Notre Dame is the school currently recruiting him the hardest and he is eyeing January 27 as a time to see the Irish. He is set to visit Tennessee January 13 as well.

In February, he plans to check out Michigan and Texas, then he has already scheduled a visit to USC March 3.

Other schools showing a lot of interest in Watson is California, Florida, LSU, Ohio State, Oklahoma and Texas A&M.

This is a decision Watson, Rivals' No. 10 cornerback in the 2019 class has thought long and hard about. He talked with his family many times about this and they all feel a fresh start is what is best for Watson.

"I just want to focus on my craft and get bigger and stronger this off-season," said Watson. "I will take some visits too, but that is what my focus will be on now. I want to add about 10 pounds of muscle and I will focus on recruiting later.

"While the changes were being made at Florida State, other coaches came on hard and I just want to take a look at each of my options, so I am going to slow things down."
