One of Kentucky’s first commitments from the Class of 2004 has picked up some new scholarship offers and decided to re-open his recruitment.
Louisville Fern Creek wide receiver Mario Urrutia (6-5, 195, 4.6) is now considering a list of offers that includes Kentucky, Louisville, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Nebraska, Virginia and West Virginia.
“U of K came right off the bat and offered me, and it was the best that I had so far, so I went ahead and jumped on that,” he said. “But since then I’ve got a lot of other offers. I decided it might be better to wait until I took some visits and looked around before I made up my mind.
“U of K is still No. 1 on my list, and I’m glad to have that scholarship offer, but I want to look at the rest of the schools.”
As a junior, Urrutia caught 65 passes for 1,075 yards and 12 touchdowns. He’s also one of the area’s top basketball players, averaging 16 points and nine rebounds a game.
