An impressive senior season has led to increased
recruiting interest for tight end/defensive end
Clint
Keller, who leads his team with 29 receptions for 520 yards
and five touchdowns on the offensive side of the ball and has recorded 30
tackles and three sacks in part-time duty on defense.
Keller (6-3, 230, 4.7) is receiving regular calls
from Indiana, North Carolina, Colorado State, Iowa State, Utah State, Miami
(Ohio), Kent State and Akron. He's still awaiting his first scholarship
offer, but believes that may be coming soon from at least two of the schools
on his list.
"I think Akron and Kent State are going to offer,"
he said. "Iowa State and Utah State are real interested as well. They want
us to set up a visit."
Keller will visit Akron this weekend for its game
against Marshall and travel to Indiana next week for the Hoosiers' matchup
with Michigan State.
He said he's been to several games at home town
Kentucky, but the staff has informed him that scholarship reductions
resulting from NCAA sanctions have made it unlikely they can offer.
"They're still interested and staying in touch,
which is good. I'd love to get an offer from them," Keller said. "Coach
(Gerald) Carr has told me they're probably going to go after a junior
college tight end, but for me to hang in there and be patient, see what
happens.
"So I don't really have a favorite right now. I'm
just trying to learn as much as I can about all the schools that are
recruiting me and hopefully find out which ones are the best when I visit."
Through nine games this season, Keller has caught a
team-high 29 passes for 520 yards and five touchdowns. He's also been the
team's most consistent blocker in weekly grades, averaging almost 90
percent. On the defensive side of the ball, he's recorded 30 tackles and
three sacks in part-time duty.
Keller is also an outstanding student, sporting a
3.3 GPA and a 24 on the ACT.
