Kentucky QB commits to Bearcats

Maysville (Ky.) Mason County quarterback Dustin Grutza pulled the trigger on his college decision after an official visit this weekend.
“I’m going to Cincinnati,” he said. “I really liked everything up there, and decided that was the best fit for me. I like the coaches and the players, and I think they’re heading in a good direction. I also felt like I was their No. 1 guy and can contribute something to their program.
"Plus, it's just about an hour away from home. My mom really likes that."
Grutza (6-3, 195, 4.65) picked the Bearcats over Mississippi State, UAB, Kentucky and Ball State. He had a trip tentatively scheduled for Jan. 23 at Mississippi State, but will no longer that that one.
He’s coming off a senior season which saw him throw for 3,266 yards and 38 touchdowns while rushing for 748 yards and 14 scores. In all, he accounted for 4,014 yards in total offense and 52 touchdowns in leading the Royals to a 12-2 record and the semifinals of the Class 3A playoffs. He was named honorable mention all-state, the district player of the year and was a member of the Lexington Herald-Leader’s “Class of the Commonwealth” Team.
An all-around athlete, he also co-starred with two-sport prospect Chris Lofton on Mason County’s state champion basketball squad.
