Kentucky lands four-star Tyrell Ajian

Outside of Ohio State, few teams can claim the level of recruiting success in the state of Ohio over the last few classes as the Kentucky Wildcats. Mark Stoops and Co. have filled their classes with top prospects from the Buckeye State over the last several classes, and they continued that run when they landed a pledge from four-star Madison Comprehensive athlete Tyrell Ajian.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Ajian was already familiar with several of Kentucky’s commits in the 2016 and 2017 classes, including fellow Ohioans Michael Warren and James Hudson. The tide of this recruitment is widely believed to have changed last fall when Ajian attended the Wildcat’s home contest against Florida. Ajian listed a top six just two weeks ago that consisted of Kentucky, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State and West Virginia.

IN HIS WORDS: “I've been thinking about it for a couple weeks now and I knew it when I felt very comfortable and everything I thought of with Kentucky was good and positive. The vibe that I get there… it's a great feeling. Their style of play fits me by the way they run their defense.”

RIVALS’ REACTION: Kentucky has been grabbing three and four-stars from the state of Ohio for some time, but this may be the most impressive addition for the Wildcats because they beat out the likes of Michigan, Michigan State and Notre Dame for the four-star prospect. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound prospect is a two-way stand out in high school who could project to either side of the football in college. Kentucky sees Ajian as a defensive back, where he registered 54 tackles and three interceptions as a junior.
