Kentucky impresses Montgomery

Weston (Fla.) Cypress Bay three-star wide receiver Alex Montgomery made the long journey from the Sunshine State to visit the University of Kentucky this weekend. The 6-foot-1, 180-pound wideout said the trip was well worth the time.
"It was great," Montgomery said.

According to the South Florida wide receiver, it is the people at the SEC program that stood out the most to him.
"The coaches and the players," Montgomery said when asked what stood out to him at Kentucky.
Two specific coaches made a strong impression upon the offensive weapon during his time in Lexington.
"Coach (Joker) Phillips and Coach (Pat) Washington, they like me a lot," Montgomery said. "They love me as a wideout."
Montgomery's primary recruiter is defensive backs coach Mike Cassity. Cassity is also heavily involved with Cypress Bay three-star running back Matt Dayes, who also visited Kentucky this weekend.
In addition to learning about the football program during his visit, Montgomery also visited the Wildcats in hopes of learning more about their academics and the educational opportunities offered to student-athletes. He came away with a lot of new information about how life is structured for a student-athlete.
"They are very strict about that," Montgomery said. "They check their players grades every day to make sure your grades stay. They have a wonderful study program."
Kentucky isn't the only school interested in Montgomery. He has also received offers from Duke, East Carolina, Florida International, N.C. State, Ole Miss, Rutgers, South Alabama, UCF, Wake Forest, and Western Kentucky. After the visit, Montgomery isn't quite ready to name a clear-cut leader.
"Not yet," Montgomery said when asked if he had a leader. "But they (Kentucky) are one of the top ones."
As for a final decision, Montgomery has previously indicated that he isn't likely going to select a college until midway through the football season or later.
As a junior, Montgomery had 27 receptions for 556 yards and 10 touchdowns. He also had 25 rushes for 152 yards and three touchdowns.
