Kentucky holds early lead for 2019 slot receiver

LAKELAND, Fla. -- It’s early in the process and while 2019 prospect Ahmarean Brown doesn’t have any idea where he’ll land for college, he certainly knows his roll upon arriving on whichever campuses he decides to call home.

The 5-foot-9 wide receiver, who also runs track in high school, was build for speed. He was built to play in the slot. And if the handful of major offers he already holds are any indication, he’ll play that spot at the next level.

Now Brown just has to decide which school he’ll call home. On that front, there seems to be frontrunner.

“I love Kentucky right now,” Brown said. “I actually took a visit a month or so ago for the spring game. I loved it there. That’s my No. 1 right now.”

Brown also holds offers from Iowa State, USF and others but is hesitant to set many visits in stone at this juncture. Instead, the underclassmen pans to see what shakes in the months ahead before adding too much travel to his itinerary.

“I’m planning on checking out some other schools, but I want to see what offers come in and what comes up,” he said. “That’ll probably help me decide where I want to check out.”

Brown, who attends Tampa (Fla.) Catholic High School, says there might be in SEC offer in his future. If that arrives, his recruitment may undergo a quick change of direction.

“I’m thinking Georgia might offer. They’re talking to me now. I went to the camp and showed something. I loved the facility. I want to go back to see what it’s all about.”

RIVALS REACTION: Because of his limited size, Brown will need to find a system that fits his skill set. His speed his calling card, but he also runs solid routes. Kentucky is the frontrunner for now, but that could change depending on how much steam his recruitment picks up in the year ahead.
