Kentucky Top 15
team has a new scholarship offer and top five early into the season.
Lexington Bryan Station's
Markeith
Gillis has added hometown Kentucky to standing offers from Miami (Ohio)
and Tennessee Tech.
"I think (Kentucky) is looking at me for defense, but
that's OK," said Gillis, who at 6-foot-1, 250 pounds and a 4.6 forty also
projects at defensive end or linebacker. "They're off to an awesome start, 3-0.
I can't remember when the last time they've looked better. Guy Morriss really
seems to know what he's doing. I like what they're doing down there."
Miami still holds the edge, though, due to an offer to let
Gillis play running back.
"They beat North Carolina, which was real impressive, and
they're really the only one who has said I could play running back," said
Gillis, who rushed for 614 yards on 112 carries as a junior. "That's my favorite
position, so I'm taking a long look at them. I'm not saying it will be the main
thing in my decision, but that's the way I'm thinking now."
Rounding out his top five are Louisville, West Virginia and
Tennessee.
"I like Louisville's program and the coach there," he said.
"They've been really strong in Conference USA, and they say they may be moving
up to a bigger conference like the Big East in the next couple of years."
Gillis attended Miami's game against Iowa on Sept. 7. He
also plans to take in the Redhawks' game game against Northern Illinois on Oct.
12 and Kentucky's game against LSU on Nov. 9.
