Kemp commits to Michigan

Caught in a bind between childhood fandom and hometown dreams, Carlo Kemp has decided to head off in a new direction.
The four-star defensive end committed to Michigan on Sunday, choosing the Wolverines over Notre Dame and nearby Colorado. The 6-foot-3, 250-pound Kemp, the top-rated prospect in Colorado, is on schedule to graduate early from Boulder (Colo.) Fairview and would then enroll in college in time for spring practice.

"I love both Michigan and Notre Dame," Kemp told Rivals.com. "They both offer what I'm looking for on and off the field with great academics and high-level football.
"But I'm really excited to see what coach Jim Harbaugh is doing at Michigan and I have a great relationship there with the defensive coordinator as well as with coach Greg Mattison. It's been awesome getting to know them and I can't wait to continue that."
The decision was not an easy one for Kemp, the No. 9-rated weakside defensive end in the 2016 class. He visited the Wolverines on the weekend of Sept. 25, seeing them shut out BYU at the Big House. Kemp then stopped by Notre Dame two weeks later.
"With Notre Dame, it's been rooted in my family for such a long time," Kemp said. "My grandmother started me at a young age always wearing Notre Dame clothes. It was awesome when I was finally able to land that offer and it meant a lot, so this has been difficult."
Kemp, No. 203 overall in the Rivals250 rankings, also officially visited Colorado the weekend of Oct. 16 and had UCLA in his final four.
"There was a little bit of that pressure to stay close to home just because I was born and raised in Boulder," Kemp said. "A part of you wants to play for them and represent your hometown, take them places everyone there wants to go on the national level."
Kemp became the 10th four-star prospect to join Michigan's 2016 class. His senior season ended this past Friday night. He totaled a team-best 70 tackles during the regular season, including seven for a loss, and also added four touchdowns on offense.
