Kelly-Powell talks WVU offer

Detroit (Mich.) Cass Tech 2017 safety Jaylen Kelly-Powell just finished a four-school trip that yielded his 15th offer of the process from West Virginia.
Kelly-Powell and a few other Detroit-area recruits, including four-star Ambry Thomas, stopped by West Virginia's campus Friday, which is when the three-star safety learned of his offer from the Mountaineers.

"One of the coaches called our coaches and said they offered me," Kelly-Powell said. "It's a great thing and a great opportunity. I talked to him a little bit, but he had to get back to what he was doing because they were playing paint ball."
While the West Virginia coaches were involved in a team-building exercise, Kelly-Powell and the other Detroit-area recruits were able to tour the campus with a recruiting assistant.
"It kind of surprised me. I wasn't expecting that," Kelly-Powell said of Morgantown. "It was pretty big. I didn't expect that, but everyone had been telling me it was pretty great. So, I went down there to see it for myself and I liked it. I liked how they worked hard and improved."
With 14 other schools already having offered, and more showing interest, West Virginia will have plenty of competition for Kelly-Powell, but he expects the Mountaineers to be contenders.
"They'll be pretty strong," he said. "Coming in and playing, learning I feel like I can (succeed there)."
Kelly-Powell wrapped up the four-school tour with a stop at Ohio State's Friday Night Lights Camp, where he was able to reconnect with Cass Tech alums Mike Weber and Joshua Alabi.
"I've been down here a couple times with Mike and Josh," Kelly-Powell said. "This time I got to work with the guys and get coached by the Ohio State (coaches). Coach (Kerry) Coombs gave me a lot of good feedback. He liked that I could play safety and corner."
The 6-foot, 180-pound Kelly-Powell is ranked as the No. 8 player in the state of Michigan for 2017. He tallied 55 tackles for Cass Tech as a sophomore.
