Kelly next Wichita East star

BALTIMORE -- Wichita (Kan.) East defensive end Xavier Kelly has seen his recruiting

stock rise dramatically in recent months. He's taken an aggressive approach to
his recruiting process by taking several visits and plans to take several more
in the coming months.
Most recently, Kelly visited Georgia, Clemson,
Alabama and Florida State.
"I just wanted to see if I was comfortable living there," said Kelly, who participated in Saturday's Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge. "If they have
good academics, a good football program and to see how I feel about the
coaches."
Kelly's father lives in Georgia, so attending a school in the Southeast would
not be an issue for him at all.
Up next for Kelly are trips to Oklahoma, Oklahoma State,
Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame and then a swing
through the state of Texas to see Texas A&M, Texas,
Baylor and TCU. Kelly was at one point committed to Kansas
State, but reopened his recruitment in March.
"They're still in it," he said. "I'm not counting them all the way out."
He plans to trim his ever-growing list to five this summer and then make a
decision after his senior season.
The state of Kansas has only produced two five-star recruits in the Rivals.com
era and, ironically, both of those recruits also came from Wichita East High
School. Bryce Brown and Arthur Brown put the school on the map
and, with his ranking recently bumped up to four stars, Kelly has thought about
the possibility of breaking through into five-star status.
"That's a challenge," said Kelly. "That was awhile back so I think it's time for
another five-star to come out of Kansas."
Kelly is excited to prove that players from Kansas should be taken seriously.
"It's a blessing," he said. "A lot of people don't get the opportunities that I
have and I'm just thankful that I have them."
