Kelley commits to Oregon

Ryan Kelley never intended to come off the board this early, but that was before he took a game-changing trip this season.

The four-star quarterback from Chandler (Ariz.) Basha committed to Oregon on Thursday in an announcement ceremony at his high school, picking the Ducks over fellow finalists Arizona State and UCLA. Kelley, the No. 10-rated pro-style quarterback in the next recruiting cycle, was the only signal-caller Oregon offered for 2017. He visited campus the weekend of Oct. 10 for the Washington State game.
"They absolutely wowed me with their facilities -- I really didn't expect all of that," Kelley told Rivals.com. "I had a great, great time up there. I really enjoyed myself just learning from the players. I noticed they enjoy themselves a lot, too.
"I'm listed as a pro-style quarterback and I believe that is somewhat true, but I think I can extend plays with my legs and that's what the coaches really like about me. I'm just excited to be joining this program, especially with what they have done with quarterbacks."
Kelley also had California and Michigan State among his leaders before settling on the Ducks.
"I really didn't feel the pressure to stay close to home, obviously with four out-of-state schools in the five," Kelley said. "My parents were really open about it and they're letting me choose where I want to go.
"ASU was great with me. I like their coaches, it's home and they have great football program. I really enjoyed talking to coach (Mike) Norvell and coach (Todd) Graham every single day."
The 6-foot-2, 173-pound Kelley suffered an injury the night before he was all set to make a visit to see two of his suitors -- UCLA and Arizona State -- at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. He never rescheduled that road trip and it certainly played in the Ducks' favor.
Kelley passed for 2,606 yards and 20 touchdowns in 10 games while completing 63 percent of his attempts this season. He also rushed for four more scores. He became the second member of Oregon's 2017 recruiting class, joining three-star defensive end Langi Tuifua from South Jordan (Utah) Bingham.
