Kansas WR favoring one school

Wichita (Kan.) Kapaun-Mt. Carmel safety Garrett Guzman is leaning heavily toward one school in the recruiting race after attending their camp last week.
“Nebraska’s camp went really well,” the 6-foot-3, 200-pound Guzman said. “It couldn’t have gone any better. I was pleased with how well I did. I got to spend a lot of time with Coach (Ron) Brown. I really liked him.”

With no offers on the table yet, however, he’s not ruling out anyone.
“I wouldn’t mind having the chance to see another part of the country. I would like to visit Washington. I’m also interested in Florida State, Oregon and Texas.”
In addition, he has received interest from Kansas State, Missouri, Colorado State, Wyoming, Harvard, Yale, Duke, Colorado, Stanford, Oklahoma State, UCLA, Wisconsin, Navy and Kansas.
With a 4.0 GPA and a 25 on the ACT, academics play a large part in his decision as well.
“I want to go somewhere that has a winning tradition and where I feel comfortable, but education has always played a major role in my life,” Guzman said. “I’m planning on majoring in pre-med.”
During his sophomore and junior years Guzman racked up 57 receptions for 800 yards, 11 touchdowns, 45 tackles, 5 passes defended and 5 interceptions. He was named to the all-city first team and honorable mention all-state.
Although schedule conflicts won’t allow him to attend any more summer camps, he is keeping in shape.
“I’ll be going to a 7-on-7 tourney in Hays, Kan. the first part of August, and we train morning and night all summer. A lot of guys just go to the weight room to put in their time. I really enjoy weightlifting and running.”
