Kansas QB commit Clayton Tune updates on status with Jayhawks

PLANO, Tex. -- Hebron three-star quarterback Clayton Tune may not have been on the winning side of his team’s season-opening win against Plano but he did walk off the field having took some positives last Thursday night.

Topping the list was the level of comfort he had in his knee after injuring it late last season.

“I feel good. Honestly, I feel better than I did last year,” he said. “Going into the game I thought I would be thinking about it, but I never once thought about my knee, so it feels good; feels good to finally play again.”

Tune had some squirrely throws here and there throughout the night, and while he showed confidence while scrambling and running, didn’t overdo it with his legs. He finished the night just shy of 250 yards passing and delivered three touchdown passes - all to 2019 Rivals100 receiver Trejan Bridges.

The fortune of having a receiver like Bridges is not lost on Tune, after the two combined for eight completions and 140 yards.

“It’s great knowing that you have a guy that 95-percent of the time will come down with it on jump-balls,” he said. “It’s good to know that he’s sure-handed and I can go there whenever I need to.”

Meanwhile, Tune said that he is still firmly committed to Kansas, as he has been since February. While much hasn’t been made of things since then, Tune said that the relationship between he and the staff has grown since his early-spring announcement.

“They stay in touch with me a lot,” he said. “I think that the relationship has grown over the past few months, especially with them checking in on my recovery and everything. Of course they sent me a good luck text tonight and it’s little things like that that make me feel that things have grown as time’s passed.”

RIVALS REACTION

Tune has managed to keep a pretty low profile when it’s come to his recruitment - spanning back to before his commitment to the Jayhawks. However, having made that commitment, he seems content to let things be and is more concerned with his performance on the field this season. Even though Kansas got off to a nice start of its own this season, Tune hasn’t figured out which games he might try to attend in Lawrence this season.

“I haven’t decided on which games I’m going to go to,” he said. “I just have to see how my schedule works out.”

Kansas hosts West Virginia when Hebron is on its bye during the September 22 weekend.
