Position: Offensive tackle
Size and speed: Haselhorst is 6-foot-5 and 290 pounds. He has been timed in the 40-yard dash at 5.0 seconds. He also has a bench-press of 300 pounds, can bench 185-pounds 18 times and a squat max of 405 pounds. He maintains a 2.5 grade-point average.
Honors: Haselhorst was all-league, all-area, all-county and an all-metro pick as a junior.
Favorite Schools: Haselhorst doesn’t want to list favorites at this point, but is very interested in Oklahoma, Kansas, Michigan, Michigan State Missouri, Minnesota, Kansas State, LSU and Colorado. He has scholarship offers from Kansas, Missouri and Minnesota.
Skinny: It’s not too often that players in Kansas has multiple scholarship offers in the month of April, but for Olathe (Kan.) East offensive lineman Todd Haselhorst, it’s just another day in the life of being an elite athlete. That’s because football isn’t the only thing that he’s pretty darned good at.
”I not doing too bad in track and field this year,” Haselhorst said with a chuckle.
“I’m second in the state in shot and fourth in the state in discus. I like the discus more, but I’m better at the shot.”
What’s impressive about his discus mark is that he’s not even learned how to throw it correctly – without the trademark discus spin – and he’s just basically heaving it as far as it can go.
“I’m going to get better at it,” he said. “Once I learn how to do the little things, I’ll be better at it.”
It’s hard to believe that Haselhorst needs much room to improve in anything athletic. That’s because he’s established himself the past few years as one of the top players in the Kansas City metro area and with that has come college attention from recruiters all over the map.
He first picked up offers early in the process from Kansas, Missouri and Minnesota. But he believes that he’s going to see an increase in those offers – even as early as today.
“Oklahoma’s coming by the school,” Haselhorst said. “I was told that they were probably going to offer me. I went down there for their spring game and it was amazing. They’re adding on to the stadium and it’s already huge. They had a ton of people there just for the spring game.
“I used to watch them on TV and just think that those guys were studs. Now, it’s kind of cool to think that I could be standing there next to them in the future.”
But Haselhorst is also quick to point out that he’s definitely not sure about what his future holds. He maintains that he’s still very open to all the teams on his list and even has a lot of family pulling him in different directions.
“My dad likes KU,” he said. “And I grew up a KU fan. My sister also goes over there, so that’s what she wants. My aunt wants me to go to K-State and my mom likes Oklahoma. I think you can tell that I need to take my time and see how it all works out.”
Haselhorst said he’s expecting to bump into coaches from Missouri also today, and Kansas, Minnesota, Michigan, Michigan State and LSU have all told his coach that they’ll be at his school next week.
