Kansas linebacker down to two

The decision time is coming for Mike Rivera. The 6-foot-3, 230-pound linebacker from Shawnee Mission Northwest (Kan.) has narrowed his final list to two schools.
Over the next two weekends he is going to get the information he needs to make a decision.

“We’re going to take two unofficial visits to Kansas and Missouri,” said his father Mike Sr. “Mike wants to meet the players and see how each program is doing.”
This weekend Rivera and his father will journey down the road to Lawrence to watch Kansas play UNLV. The following weekend they will make the trip to Columbia to watch Missouri play Eastern Illinois.
“He wants to meet the players,” Mike Sr. said. “He just wants to make sure where the programs stand and have the confidence he would be surrounded by good players. We know Mark Mangino is only in his second year and Gary Pinkel has Missouri going in the right direction in his third year.”
After his two final unofficial visits things won’t get much easier for the Rivera family.
“He knows he wants to play in the Big 12,” Mike Sr. said. “He knows he wants to play middle linebacker. He wants to be sure both programs are on an upward swing. There have been times he has wanted to call Missouri and commit, and times he wanted to call Kansas and commit. It won’t be an easy decision.”
