Overland Park (Kan.) St. Thomas Aquinas inside linebacker/fullback Brian Smith was one of many top recruits on hand this past Saturday at Notre Dame's spring game. Smith, the son of former Notre Dame fullback Chris Smith, said he enjoyed his time in South Bend.
"Notre Dame was great," Smith, who is 6-foot-3 and 220 pounds, said. "I got to talk to coach Rick Minter and Rob Ianello for a short time, and I hung out with the other big time recruits like Jimmy Clausen and Major Wright."
While the trip to Notre Dame was big news, the biggest news for Smith lately is new scholarship offers from Pac 10 and SEC teams.
"I got offers from Washington and Kentucky on Friday," Smith said.
"I'm excited about the offers. I know Ty Willingham through Notre Dame. He recruits on character, so I'm honored to be offered from them. Plus, I've heard a lot of good things about the program at Kentucky. It sounds like they're a program on the way up."
Smith's newest offers gives him five big-time offers from three BCS Conferences. He already had offers from Kansas, Kansas State and Missouri. After visiting both Missouri and Kansas' spring games, he said all three of the local area teams still hold the edge.
"I like what I'm hearing from all of them," Smith said. "I'm excited about the future of those programs, and I know I'd be a good fit at each one of them."
