Kansas lands Georgia DB Shad Dabney

Les Miles and the Kansas Jayhawks are actively recruiting the south, and it has paid off again.

Flowery Branch (Ga.) Cherokee Bluff cornerback Shad Dabney has committed to the Jayhawks. He is the fourth defensive back commitment, and all have come from from schools in the south.

Kansas beat out Lafayette and Syracuse for this three-star.

"I just got to a point here recently where I knew Kansas was the best place for me," said Dabney. "Lafayette really did a great job recruiting me, and they were in my top three, but I have really been going back-and-forth between Kansas and Syracuse for a little while.

"It hit me though that Kansas is where I need to be. It is just the best school for me and what I want."

It is the combination of coaches, opportunity and competition that set the Jayhawks apart.

"Kansas plays in a passing league, so I will go up against a lot of top receivers, I will play against passing offenses, and I will have the chance to get on the field early and show my ability.

"I have gotten really close with coach Chevis Jackson and I know he will coach me up and develop my game at defensive back. He is a younger coach, so we relate well to each other, he has played the position in high school, college and NFL, so I am excited about playing for him."

Jackson's boss, coach Miles also appealed to Dabney.

"Coach Miles has won championships, he has coached great teams and he knows how to win," said Dabney. "He has been around great talent, he has had great teams, and I believe he can make Kansas a lot better."

This decision was made last week, and since then, Dabney has been sleeping well at night. Recruiting can be stressful, and it now looks to be over for this Peach State athlete.

"I talked to coach Miles about the decision last Thursday and we had a great conversation. He was a huge factor, so we talked about my position, my ability and my decision. It went really well.

"After that, I talked to all the other coaches on FaceTime and their reaction was crazy. I told all of them I wanted to be a Jayhawk and they were so excited.

"I was going back and forth for a little bit, but I know Kansas is where I want to be. Since I made the decision, I have rested more, I have slept better at night and I am more relaxed.

"I know I picked the right school."
