Kansas JC LB receiving attention

Leon Cesar got considerable attention out of high school, but academics forced him to go the junior college route.
"Syracuse was very interested in me out of high school," Cesar said. "But once they saw my transcript they backed off."

Cesar did have choices other than junior college.
"I nearly signed with Tennessee State," Cesar said. "But in the end I decided I'd go to junior college and try to get to Division-I that way."
The 6-foot-1, 230-pound linebacker, who originally hails from Miami (Fla.) Central, wound up at Dodge City (Kan.) Community College, and is on the verge of his sophomore season at the school.
Cesar is finally getting the D-I interest he hoped he would get.
"I am getting letters from all over the country. Oregon, Oregon State, LSU, Mississippi, Central Florida, Alabama, Illinois and Arkansas come to mind."
Despite the attention, Cesar is still waiting for his first scholarship offer.
"None have offered as of yet, but I think they will once they see me play this fall. They'll see that I am getting things done in the classroom."
Cesar plans to complete his Associate's degree in May, and have three years to play two wherever he signs.
