Kansas FB helps team keep winning

Conway Springs, Kan., fullback Darrin Seiwert continues his pursuit on the state’s all-time record book, but his team’s success might keep him from the mark.
“I’ve been coming out of the games early on because we keep winning big,” the 6-foot-2, 225-pound Seiwert said. “We won the first game 60 to six and then our second game was 70 something to six. It’s nice to win big because everyone gets to play, but it is also nice to be able to play more than a quarter.”

Seiwert’s attack on the record book began the season with 66 rushing touchdowns, the ninth highest in the state’s history. He also was listed 20th all-time in career rushing yards with 4,377. Former Wichita (Kan.) Collegiate and Nebraska standout DeAngelo Evans holds the record with 8,473 yards.
“The record book isn’t important,” Seiwert said. “I just want to keep winning.”
Winning is what the Cardinals do best. Entering the 2004 season, the Class 3A power had won 41 consecutive games and three straight state championships. The mark now stands at 43 under the direction of new coach Greg Rosenhagan who took over for the departed Mark Bliss who took over a new high school in Florida.
“Darrin has had a real good career and that will help him get noticed as we go through this process,” Rosenhagen said. “Schools can’t overlook his productivity.”
He doesn’t have any scholarship offers yet, but schools continue to fill Seiwert’s mailbox.
“I get mail all the time from Kansas State, Oklahoma State and some of the Ivy League schools. Most of the time they are inviting me to come to games or to stop by and see them. I like Kansas State the most right now. I know quite a bit about them. They win a lot and they are close to home. They are at the top of my list at this point.”
