With one Big 12 South school having already offered, Sam McGuffie struck gold in the Big 12 North this week.
While vacationing with his girlfriend's family in Pittsburgh, Pa., McGuffie got word from home that he received an official offer letter from Kansas University.
"My dad called me and told me I had a letter from Kansas," he said. "It was an offer letter and I was pretty excited about it."
During the break, McGuffie took in a Pittsburgh Steeler game, but didn't have time to take in the University of Pittsburgh's campus.
McGuffie also learned that he would be named the Greater Houston Offensive Player of the Year by the Houston Chronicle's staff led by beat writer Sam Khan.
"He put up the best numbers the city of Houston has seen in years," Khan said. "He had 43 touchdowns and over 2,000 yards in just 10 regular season games. What didn't he do, maybe miss a block? The real measure of his greatness is that 150 yards was an off-day for him."
Who will be the next surprise in the mailbox? It may be the Big Blue of Michigan calling.
