Kabongo visits South Bend

Rivals100 defensive tackle Masengo Kabongo made his way to South Bend last weekend to attend Notre Dame's Blue and Gold game. The 6-foot-2, 275-pounder enjoyed the trip, but just how much did he like it?
"The visit was great," he said. "I mean, if I had to sum it up in three letters it'd be wow. I was pretty amazed with the fans, atmosphere, spirit, it's like something I've never seen or experienced before.

"The thing that impressed me most at the spring game was the fans. They were just on fire out there and so much into football. The visit was so good I can't even explain it."
Kabongo closely monitored Notre Dame's defensive line.
"I watched the defensive tackles and they play in a 3-4 defense," he said. "It was an interesting thing for me. Most likely I'd be a defensive tackle in their scheme and seeing what they were doing with slanting and all that stuff was great. I liked the defense and it seems to be their strength right now."
While in South Bend, the Connecticut lineman talked to a few of the coaches.
"I talked to Corwin Brown and Ron Powlus," he said. "They stood out too. With recruiting, you don't know who to trust and everything those guys were saying made them very trustworthy.
"The coaches also did bring up offering. They told me that they obviously like my tape, but then said Notre Dame doesn't just offer by tape. They want to get to know me more as a person and not just as a player. I'm pretty cool with that. Overall the visit was great and it's something I really want to be a part of."
The real question comes, is Notre Dame leading for Kabongo?
"I liked it a lot and I don't have much doubts that they are my leader," he said. "I was planning to go to Florida this weekend, but I've cancelled that trip and instead will be up at Connecticut. After that I plan to go to Florida and then west to Southern Cal and Stanford around June."
Currently the defensive lineman prospect holds four offers from Maryland, Clemson, North Carolina State and Connecticut.
"I got a couple of those offers last week and I'm looking at all the colleges that offer me," he said. "I'm taking my time and figuring out what kind of schools they are."
