Kabongo is exploding on the scene

September is a common time to find hidden talent in the senior class and one player that is clearly making a name for himself this fall is Woodbridge (Va.) Gar-Field safety Leons Kabongo. The 5-foot-11, 175-pounder has only been in the United States for less than two years, but is picking up on the sport of football quickly.
"He came to us from Africa and this year he's really started to get accustomed to the sport," Gar-Field head coach Joe Mangano said. "He's been unbelievable for us registering 26 tackles in one game. He nearly had the school record. He also has 10 tackles for loss and four sacks on the year.

"There's no doubt Leons is undersized, but he is very explosive and has a lean frame. He's ripped and has tremendous upside and a great work ethic. I could easily see him get up to 195-pounds or 200 and be a good strong safety in college."
After just three games, Kabongo has already gotten noticed by Division I-AA schools. Does he have a chance at I-A?
"He may be able to crack that if he is looked at by one of those schools, but those schools are usually pretty set on who they are looking at," he said. "I have no doubt he could play it, but there are a lot of avenues and he will no doubt go to a I-AA school. He is a very intelligent young man."
