Position: Defensive Tackle
Size and Speed: Zane Tomlin is 6–foot-4 and 272 pounds. He has a 40-yard dash time of 4.9 seconds.
Statistics: Last season Zane had 70 assisted tackles, 15 solo tackles with 30 of his tackles being for a loss. In addition, he had five sacks, 20 quarterback pressures, three pass knockdowns and two blocked punts.
Honors: He was named first team all-district last season in the 27-5A Texas classification. “He was lineman of the week a couple of times in district 27 last season,” Zane’s father, Jim Tomlin, said. Clark High School ended last season with a 10-2 record.
Favorite Schools: Although Zane Tomlin doesn’t have any offers yet, he is hearing from Kansas State, Texas Christian, Colorado, Washington, Vanderbilt, Arizona, Arizona State, Arkansas, Kansas, Penn State, Penn, Southern Methodist, Rice, Alabama, UCLA, Army and the Air Force Academy.
The letters pile in every day. “He got a nice letter from Rick Neuheisel (Washington) today and a third letter from Vanderbilt.”
“Joe Paterno called Tuesday night.”
“Kansas State and Arkansas” are sending the most letters.
His dad said that Colorado and Kansas State are Zane’s top two with Texas Christian and Arizona closely following those two schools
“We are going to TCU this weekend to watch their spring drills.” They were invited to visit the campus and “Zane likes TCU.” Zane’s girl friend will be attending TCU next year.
However, Zane said, "I would be willing to go anywhere (to play football)." He is not ruling anybody out at this time.
Skinny: Zane Tomlin has the right genes. Jim Tomlin played professional football for eight years in the Canadian Football League (Toronto) and his dad ended his career with the Denver Broncos.
“He has gotten 16 camp offers,” his dad said. “I know that he is going to go to Colorado and Kansas State and maybe since we are up there, Kansas. He wants to go to the Arizona camp.” One of Zane’s friends signed with Arizona.
What is your son’s strong points?
“Oh, he is so strong. His legs are huge. He is so strong that he collapses his side of the line. He gets in the backfield and tears the play up. He is quick too. He has a little spin move, that I worked on with him for years. He is only 16 (years old).” He wears a 15 size shoe.
Zane Tomlin had the following to say about his strong points: "Pass rushing and getting through the line. Breaking through the line and the double team. I get a good pursuit angle on them."
His bench is 350 pounds, his squat is 500 pounds, and his vertical is 28 inches.
He just took his first SAT test on Mar. 16 and he has 3.25 grade point average. “He made the honor roll the last six weeks,” his father said.
