Junior to Watch: Travis Thomas

Position: Running back
Size and speed: Thomas is 6-foot-2, weighs 198 pounds and runs the 40-yard dash in 4.4 seconds. He bench presses 300 pounds, squats 550 and has a 34-inch vertical leap.
Statistics: A sprinter on the track team, Thomas rushed for a little more than 1,000 yards as a junior as Washington finished 15-0 and captured the PIAA Class AA title. He scored 24 touchdowns and had 300 yards receiving. As a strong safety and outside linebacker, he registered 60 tackles.
Honors: As a junior, Thomas was named all-WPIAL, all-district and all-conference. He was also chosen to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Fab 22 and Terrific 25. He was named one of the top 60 juniors in Pennsylvania and top 30 prospects in Western Pennsylvania.
Favorite schools: West Virginia, Penn State, Northwestern, Syracuse, Stanford, Iowa, Virginia, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Boston College, Alabama.
Skinny: Thomas is a punishing runner who can also make defenders miss.
“I don’t run away from a challenge,” he said.
Thomas already has offers from West Virginia and Penn State, but he has no favorite at this point. He visited West Virginia’s Junior Day and will attend the Nike all-star camp at Penn State in late April.
Thomas has a 3.5 grade average in high school and is interested in majoring in business or engineering in college.
