Position: Linebacker
Size and Speed: TaTa Thompson is 6–foot-4 and 225 pounds. He has a 40-yard dash time of 4.6 seconds.
Statistics: TaTa Thompson did not have his exact statistics available at this time, but they will be available at a later date.
Besides playing linebacker, Thompson also played running back for the past two years and had a yards per run avergae of about six yards.
Honors: He was named first team all-district and MVP for his high school team as a junior.
Favorite Schools: He now has five solid offers from Texas A&M, Baylor, West Virginia, Texas and Mississippi.
He continues to hear from those schools plus Arizona State, USC, Iowa, Ohio State, Nebraska, Kansas State, Arizona, Tennessee, among others.
Texas A&M is both recruiting the hardest and the current favorite.
If he could schedule his official visits today, they would be to:
Texas A&M: "They have a great coaching staff. They were the first to recruit me, and their defensive scheme is built around the linebackers, so it would be a great fit for me."
Texas: "I want to visit them to learn more about them. I don't know that much."
Arizona State: "I liked the way they played on TV the couple of times I watched them, so I want to visit to learn more."
Miami: "It is my dream school, because of their great program, winning tradition, and the weather. I want to visit to learn more."
Florida State: "I want to visit to learn more."
Skinny: Basketball could be in his future also.
He plays power forward and guard in basketball and is receiving letters from Miami, Kansas State, Tennessee, and Arizona State to play basketball.
"A scholarship commitment could happen for basketball. I just don't know. Football will probably take precedence. We'll just have to wait and see."
"Distance will be a factor, as I prefer to stay in Texas. I'm going to look at possible playing time, the depth chart, how I will fit in the scheme, the coaches, facilities and school. The big question will be, would I want to spend four years there."
He said his strong point would be: "My ability to read and react to the play."
He described himself as a coverage and blitz linebacker. He compared his style of play to Brian Urlacher of the Chicago Bears.
He's attended camp at Texas A&M and plans to attend that one again, and also possibly Texas.
His major is undecided, and he has yet to set any personal sports goals.
He would like as a team to win districts and make the playoffs.
He named Naaman Forest High School quarterback John Kelly as his toughest opposing player.
Thompson benches 240 pounds, squats 360 pounds, has a 30 inch vertical leap, a GPA of 2.6 core and 2.9 cumulative, and he will take the ACT Apr. 6 and the SAT May 4.
