Position: Fullback
Size and Speed: Murphy is 5-foot-9 and 242 pounds. His personal best 40 yard dash time was in the 4.70 range.
Statistics: Shawn Murphy was not aware of what his individual statistics were last season, as he was mainly a blocking fullback. However, he has been the starting fullback for Midland Lee High School since he was a sophomore.
He is the one that they look for at the goal line or for the tough yardage.
He would usually carry the ball somewhere between four to eight times a game while averaging five yards per carry.
When he was a sophomore, Cedric Benson carried the ball most of the time. On one occasion almost everyone on the opposing team's defense was looking for Benson, when Murphy sprinted past them on a 38-yard run.
Honors: This past season Murphy Murphy was named to the second team all-district in his area.
Favorite Schools: Shawn Murphy does not have a favorite team at all yet, but he is getting letters from Boston College, Baylor, Wisconsin, and Texas A&M regularly. He has no offers so far.
Distance from home will not be a factor in his case and his parents do not have a preference at all.
“I want a school that has a good medical program with good academics, and also has a nice campus.”
Skinny: The 5-foot-9, 242 pound fullback has been described as a 'man-child', who loves to block and get the more difficult yards.
“I feel I am a strong blocker and know how to use leverage. I am also good at reading the defense, both in running and knowing who to block.”
What will be your major in college?
“I want to major in the medical field, probably as a pharmacist.”
What do you do in your spare time?
“I really enjoy bike racing, both bicycle and motorcycle.”
His best bench at this time is 300 pounds and his best squat is 450 pounds.
He is solid in the classroom with a 3.95 grade point average.
