Position: Quarterback
Size and Speed: Sam stands 6-foot-6, weighs 215 pounds and runs the 40-yard dash in 4.7 (legit) seconds. Betty has a 35-inch vertical jump.
Statistics: Stockdale head coach Dave Boyt didn’t have Betty’s stats handy but promised Rivals that he would get them to us ASAP. So be on the look out for Sam Betty, part 2 it will include Betty’s stats and information on two of his underrated teammates who are beginning to see recruiting action.
Honors: N/A.
Favorite Schools: Sam is very open at this time and will consider his options. Stanford and the entire Pac 10 is clamoring for his services. Notre Dame because of the Willingham connection and Wisconsin have also thrown their hat into the ring. Betty has outstanding grades and is hearing from Ivy League schools.
The Skinny: Sam is an “off the charts” athlete. Not only is he the Bakersfield area’s best football prospect, but Sam is also getting looks for his hoops talent as well. He has a great outside shot, is a great ball handler and is a very smooth 6-6.
Look for Betty’s future to be on the gridiron. How many 6-6 quarterbacks do you know who can run like a deer?
As a football player Betty’s athleticism is unequal. Sam is red raw as a QB, but his upsides point to a career in the NFL. Stockdale’s head coach Dave Boyt knows a thing or two about quarterbacks - coaching the likes of Brady Batten (Arizona) and soon to be NFL first-round draft choice Dave Carr. Carr and Batten can’t touch Sam’s athletic talent.
Mechanically, Sam is not as polished as Carr was at this stage of the game but we can’t pump up enough Betty’s athletic ability. Add his athletic abilities with his bazooka of an arm and you know why so many colleges are salivating for his services
Sam has great work habits and really wants it. Betty will attend Stanford’s football camp and is scheduled to be at the Nike camp that will be held at USC in April.
By this season’s end Sam could be ranked among the top five players on the west coast.
