Junior to Watch: Paul Oliver
School: Marietta (Ga.) Harrison
Position: Wide receiver/defensive back
Size and Speed: Oliver is 6-foot and weighs 185 pounds. He runs the 40-yard dash in 4.32 seconds; bench presses 245 pounds, squats 365 and has an incredible 37-inch vertical leap.
Statistics: Had nine interceptions as a cornerback and 30 catches and scored 12 touchdowns as a wide receiver. He also had over 1,300 all-purpose yards on mostly punt and kick returns.
Honors: Was named all-county as a wide receiver, defensive back and punt returner as a junior. Named all-state as a defensive back and was named Defensive Player of the Year for Cobb County by the Atlanta Journal/Constitution.
Favorite Schools: Clemson, Georgia, Georgia Tech, South Carolina, Florida, Auburn and others.
Skinny: Oliver has a 2.6 GPA and his SAT scores are due any day now. Clemson and Georgia are among his favorite schools at the present time.
“Clemson and Georgia have been recruiting me the hardest for over a year now and they really seem to want me there.” said Oliver “I plan to major in kinesiology [the study of how muscles work] in college so I can someday work in sports medicine.”
“I feel like my biggest asset is my ability to go up the ladder and catch the ball, get it close to me and I’ll catch it.” Oliver added.
Oliver does not intend on attending any football-related camps this summer as he is concentrating on his track career also.
“The college I attend will also have to be willing to let me run track.” Oliver concluded.
