Position: Defensive Back
Size and Speed: Lorenzo stands 5-foot-11, weighs 180 pounds and runs the 40-yard dash in 4.6 seconds. He currently bench presses 250 pounds. Lorenzo participates in sports all year round so he doesn’t have a weigh lifting program yet.
Statistics: Coach Reyes didn’t have exact stats on Sims but he did mention that Sims is always around the ball. Over the last two seasons Lorenzo has picked off 12 passes and was second on the team in total tackles as a junior..
Honors: Lorenzo has been selected all-league both his sophomore and junior years.
Favorite Schools: Lorenzo is keeping his options open and has no favorites. He is hearing from USC, UCLA, Syracuse, Oklahoma, Fresno State and UNLV.
The Skinny: Lorenzo is a great hitter and is fantastic in run support. He’s outstanding in pass coverage, too. “Lorenzo brings the hammer,” said Edison head coach Ray Reyes. “He has a great feel for the game and as a nose for the football,” added Reyes.
Edison has sent a lot of defensive backs to the D1 level recently. The list includes Tierre Sams (Fresno State), Paul Holland (New Mexico State), Ricky Manning (UCLA) and most recently Aaron Miller (Oklahoma). Sams is expected to be drafted by the NFL this spring. Manning has starred for UCLA since his freshmen year and will be one of the Pac 10’s top corners going into his senior season this fall. Look for Sims to be the next Edison defensive back to sign a LOI.
