Position: Tight End/Offensive Line/Defensive End
Size and Speed: Kevin stands 6-foot-3, weighs in at 237 pounds and runs a 4.71 40-yard dash. He benches 315 pounds and has a 29-inch vertical.
Statistics: N/A.
Honors: Dyer is a two-sport standout that was selected all-area in basketball and all-league on the gridiron.
Favorite Schools: Kevin is somewhat of a sleeper but is getting some early recruiting action from Cal, ASU, Oregon and Colorado State.
The Skinny: “Kevin is very athletic and very smart,” said Saint Paul head coach Marian Ancich. Well we get the smart part; Kevin carries a 4.1 GPA in honors courses at a pretty tough academic school. And we get the athletic part, too. Dyer will play tight end or offensive tackle for Saint Paul high school on the offensive side of the ball. “Where Kevin plays on offense depends on other players on the teams progress,” adds Anich. “He is a total team gut.”
On defense there is no question where he will play. Kevin will play the position that he projects as on the collegiate level and that is rush end. “Kevin has a great take off on the edge,” Anich replied. “He’s a rugged all-around football player who is a pleasure to coach.”
Dyer has been a starter for Saint Paul ever since he transferred to the school from Bellflower (Calif.) Saint John Bosco two years ago. The prevailing opinion is that Dyer’s best football is ahead of him. Saint Paul head coach Marian Anich agrees, “Kevin keeps getting bigger and bigger and better and better.”
Dyer has good bloodlines too, his brother John Dyer played at Cal during the mid 90’s. Kevin looks to be the next Dyer play football on the D1 level…
Sidebar:
Defensive end James Samarian was hurt last season and didn’t play. The talented youngster will probably transfer out of Saint Paul high school and end up at Whittier, Calif. James sure looks the part of a D1 athlete. The defensive linemen stand 6-foot-5 and weighs in at 275 pounds. If James heals up, he could be a good one…
