Position: Linebacker
Size and speed: Kala Ka'aihue is 6–foot-1 and 225 pounds. He has not been timed in the 40-yard dash yet.
Statistics: "I had about eight to 10 a game." His team only played seven games, so he ended up with about 60 tackles with about "16 to 17" being assisted tackles. On top of that, he had five sacks, 12 tackles for loss and four interceptions with one that he took the distance (45 yards) for a touchdown. "I got two interceptions covering backs."
Honors: He was named first team all-league and second team all-state last season
Favorite Schools: If he were to visit today, his visits would be to:
Washington - "They have a lot of Polynesian players and my friend, Donny Mateaki is going there. I like Washington. They have an awesome program too."
Colorado - "I really don't know much (about them), but they seem to be sending me stuff and I would like to go there too. They are good."
Oregon - "I would love to go to Oregon. I like these big schools and they are all good."
He would also like to visit Nebraska, where his brother will be playing baseball or at USC or UCLA.
The last three have not been in contacted with him about football, but Nebraska is recruiting him for baseball.
Skinny: He could end up playing either baseball or football in college.
"Whatever school fits where I want to go and has a good program and a defending championship somewhere in baseball or football. There is a bunch of stuff that factors into it. I am kind of open. I will play football or baseball."
He has been told that he has "field speed", because "I play against guy that are 4.5 or 4.6 and they would probably blow me out on a sprint (race). I seem to catch them on a football field."
"I read the play a lot better than everybody else. My instincts are my strong point. I like to hit hard. Hitting is the best thing. You don't get to it anywhere else where it is legal."
He would like to play both sports in college.
Kala Ka'aihue has done a 27 inch vertical, a 280 pound bench and a 405 pound squat.
He should have no problem qualifying academically just about anywhere. His cumulative GPA is 3.0 grade point average. He has scheduled both an SAT and ACT tests.
